Key: Additions Deletions
| Hello I'm really glad you managed to find the site after all the changes that have taken place. My name is Jackie Blackman and I have been tracing my Dad's Gypsy roots for several years now. When I started I realised just how difficult it can be to trace people who move around, sometimes from county to county, and that is how this site was born. I collect references to any one who is described as a Gypsy, traveller or as carrying out an occupation often undertaken by Gypsies. So far about 11 000 of them are on this site and I still have some to type up yet! I hope you have luck in finding some of your families on this site. Jackie Blackman (nee Cooper) | Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month June 2008 has been designated the first Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month. See here for more details http://www.grthm.co.uk There is also an active discussion thread on this site about it - just look in the discussion forum to see what has been said. Cathay Birch As those of you who are regulars on this site, Cathay regularly posts and is currently helping several people with their research. I have just had an email to say that she has severe computer problems and cannot use her machine - she just didn't want people to think she had forgotten them. Once her computer is repaired she will be back on here | ||
Become a Member You can become a member of the site by clicking on the "join Wiki" button at the top of the page - you do need to fill in the form - however, if you are uncomfortable about putting your age, all you need to do is to put in a date that would confirm you as over 13. If you become a member, not only can you make additions to the site, but you will also get a weekly newsletter - surely that is worth joining up for? |

| Add Your Information or Resources This site is fully editable by any member (the only exception is this page). I hope that those of you who use the site will be able to help it grow. I'm sure that most of us have references to Gypsies or travellers that we have collected, either that belong to our own family or not. If we all add these to the site and make them available to other researchers then we will all benefit from finding missing ancestors and new family. If you have quite a bit of information then add a page (see how to do this by looking at the page "Adding to this site"). If you only have a little bit to add pleas add them to the "Miscellaneous records" page. You can also add photos to the photo album. If you want to add files to the site please contact me first as there is a limit to the number we can have and if we have reached this total I can give you an alternative way to do it. | Write a Thread A thread is like a written conversation - you start it off and people reply to you and you reply back and so on. You do not have to become a member to write a post. If there is a family you are looking for then start a new thread on the "Looking for" page - you can check out existing threads by going to the discussions tab at the top of the page. Make sure you make the thread name meaningful. People are more likely to respond to one that gives information about who or what the thread is about. If you put something like "My Gypsy family" some people may decide not to look. However, if you put "My Cooper family" then people with an interest in that family are more likely to look. | ||
| Copyright Please make sure that you respect copyright laws. For example, this means that for items such as photographs, you must either be the owner of the images, or have permission from the owner. Even if the person who gave you them is happy for you to use them, unless the items actually belong to them you should not add them to this site. For pictures of certificates you need permission from ONS and for photographs of parish records etc, you should ask the records office or church where they were taken. | Being sensitive to others on the site Please make sure that if any information you have could be upsetting to others that it is not posted publically on this site. Whilst the purpose of Passing Through is to share our knowledge and experiences it is important to remember that these people are the family of others on the site. Negative personal comments about the characters of people, should also not be made. Thanks very much, Jackie |
