PETTIGROVE/FROST/BAKER:

My Dad Was: William Pettigrove
His parents George Pettigrove Elizabeth Baker
Georges parents: Richard Pettigrove and Maryanne Lee aka Polly
Elizas parents: William Baker and Priscillia Bundock

Georges Grand Parents: Thomas Lee and Sarah (nee Baker)
Elizas Grand Parents: John Baker and Mercy (nee Lee)

.

George Pettigrove and Eliza Baker had only FOUR G Grand parents - Believed to be: John and Mercy Baker and Charlotte and Jethro Lee. Sarah Baker married Thomas Lee John Baker married Mercy Lee - sister and brother married brother and sister. (Also I believe that these fouralso share Gparents or GG Parents)

The name FROST was used in our Pettigrove family. My Gdad George was registered
Shows in some census returns as Charles Pettigrove - Others as Frost

GGG GDad Richard married to GGG GM Charlotte Frost - she was a widow -they married Oct 15th 1852. Her maiden name was Yelding. Her sister Emma was the mother of SIR Robert Fossett of Circus fame and she was from the famous Yelding equestrian family.
GGG GDad Richard was the son of GGGG GD James Britten Pettigrove and I am in touch with family from this line in Australia/USA.

I was brought up with the fact that the Pettigroves were Showmen and not Gypsy..but the line can be quite fine between how people view these differences. The Lees/Baker/Rossitors are Gypsy.

Via Charlotte Yelding we are related to lots of the old Showman/Circus The Sangers and the Fossetts are just two. The Yeldings orgins are believed to be French - but working on those at the moment.

I will be adding my research to this site. In 1990 I was contacted by someone with Pettigrove links from America. Doing a little research in our local library I was able to find the bare bones of the family history. When I went online in 2003 I was soon in touch with the originator of this Passing Through site. Over the years I have found been in contact with my Pettigrove/Lee/Baker relatives, Gypsy and Travelling showmen. Will be adding notes and BMD - Census returns.
I also save any references to know ancestors and all Kent Gypsy connection from the" remember when " pages from our local paper. These I will add to either this site or start an Ashford site.
