Theories of Gypsy Origins
Hi All, the following is very much the view of Cathay, who created this page - if you have any comments or want to put forward alternatives, please feel free - Jackie
From Whence We came. Many people, historians and the like, comment that Romanchial came first from India to Europe,media Persia etc., about 56B.C.I would however refute that.How did we get to India and have you noticed that not all Romanchial are dark skinned?Anyone who is familiar with the bible whether as a historical book or sacred reading will on reading the book of Genisis notice that one of the 12 tribes appears no more in the books of the bible until Revelations.if you read in the book of Genisis the character of the tribe of Dan the similarities between them and the Romany gypsy are very similar.Who else but the Jews and the Romanies have been scattered throughout the world? Who else have retained their own culture,whilst remaining in a country perhaps not of their birth or at least in the country of adoption for 100s of years as an ethnic minority? Historians refer to the tribe of Dan as the Lost Tribe.i don’t think they are lost, I think we are alive and kicking still spread throughout the world but I am quite sure the romanchial are that tribe of DanTo be sure I think the tribe of Dan did roam to India before they ventured this way but never the less I feel our history goes back a lot further than 56 B.C.I have lived amongst the Jews(part of my own family are Jewish and I still live on a romany site,carrying on the Romany ways and culture and there is very little difference in a lot of our customs.I have met a number of people who agree with me.Any way I offer this theory as food for thought! i have added this in the hope that many of you will have your own ideas on where we come from!i will try and get permission to copy an article that old mort sent me with a travellers ideas on our origins.the above i wrote for a magazine myself but it is only my theory.don lock i know is trying to find our backgrounds with the dna testing.many think we came from persia,many think we came from india.what do you think?i think i have traced my family history back to one old man called adam and his wife eve who pinched the apple from their fathers garden!!!its the bits in between them and me thats got me stuck!!
